UNDERSTANDING GUM GRADES

ACACIA SENEGAL vs ACACIA SEYAL

Gum Senegal and Gum Seyal are both types of Gum Acacia obtained from different species of Acacia trees and have key differences in their properties and applications. Close to 40% of Gum Acacia is produced by the Gum Acacia tree while Acacia Seyal contributes the remaining 60% of the total supply of gum

(the remainder being other trees of the Acacia genus).

ACACIA SENEGAL

  • Higher levels of Rhamnose (CHEMICAL COMPOSITION)

  • Hard (PHYSICAL PROPERTIES)

  • More Viscous (VISCOSITY)

  • 2% (PROTEIN CONTENT)

  • Flavour, Beverage & Pharma (APPLICATIONS)

Gum Senegal comes from the Acacia Senegal tree.
It is known for its superior emulsifying properties and is primarily used as an emulsifier and stabiliser in oil-in-water emulsions.

ACACIA SEYAL

  • Higher levels of Arabinose (CHEMICAL COMPOSITION)

  • Soft, Friable (PHYSICAL PROPERTIES)

  • Less Viscous (VISCOSITY)

  • 0.8% (PROTEIN CONTENT)

  • Confectionery, Bakery & Fiber (APPLICATIONS)

Gum Seyal comes from the Acacia Seyal tree.
It is known as a fiber source and a carrier. It is primarily used

in fiber and nutrition applications.

GUT HEALTH & NUTRACEUTICALS

Gum Arabic supports gut health as a prebiotic soluble fiber, promoting beneficial microbiota and a smooth intestinal transit. It helps manage glycaemic response, can support weight and cholesterol control, and provides minerals like calcium and potassium. Its functional properties make it valuable in nutraceuticals and digestive wellness products.

AGRIGUM FIBER

  • A minimum dietary fiber content of 90%

  • Scientifically proven prebiotic effect

  • Resistant to human digestive enzymes and efficiently fermented by intestinal microflora in the colon

  • Slowly fermented in the large intestine, promoting beneficial gut bacteria and production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs)

  • Well tolerated with no adverse effects at recommended use levels

  • Can be used as a bi-functional ingredient (fiber enrichment & functional properties)

  • Low calorific value suitable for use in food fortification

  • Low glycaemic index

  • Neutral organoleptic profile (i.e. bland taste and low viscosity) ensures easy incorporation into food products without changing overall sensory quality

  • High physicochemical stability across a wide range of pH values and processing temperatures

FLAVOURS & BEVERAGES

Gum Arabic is extensively used in flavours and beverages for stabilising liquid flavour emulsions and encapsulating sensitive aromatic compounds. It is ideal for spray-dried flavour encapsulation due to its low viscosity, bland taste, and excellent emulsification properties. Additionally, it serves as a soluble fiber source, enhancing the nutritional profile of drinks.

PLANT-BASED FOODS

Gum Arabic improves plant-based foods by acting as a binder, emulsifier, and anti-syneresis agent, enhancing texture and freeze-thaw stability. It provides a silky mouthfeel, supports flavour retention, and adds fiber and calcium. With its clean-label appeal and digestive benefits, Gum Arabic is ideal for milks, yoghurts, alternative meats, and gluten-free formulations.

PHARMACEUTICALS

Gum Arabic is used in pharmaceuticals as a binder, glaze, suspending and emulsifying agent, and in syrups for its soothing properties. It stabilizes sensitive compounds such as flavours, oils, and vitamins through encapsulation and spray-drying, protecting them from degradation. It is also a key ingredient in lozenges and medicated cough drops.

Scattered Makeup
COSMETICS & PERSONAL CARE

Gum Arabic is used in cosmetics and personal care as a stabilizer,  thickener, moisturizer, and film-forming agent. It enhances texture, protects skin and hair, and stabilizes foams in soaps. Additionally, it can promote oral wellness by helping to reduce plaque build-up and soothe gingival inflammation.
